I wanna start a Sonya Walters fan club! No foolin'! For those of you who don't read the credits or game documentation, Sonya is the dark haired lass with the snazzy green guitar who sneers alot. If anyone knows anything about her, like if she's in any movies, or TV, or blue jeans ads, I wanna know! Actually, I'd like to hear what all the Hungry Star Studio Models are up to. Well we know what some of them are up to. Some of them MADE THE GAME! But I mean like Kimberly Schinasi, Humi Ku, Heinz Heindrenrich, John Szymancski, JoJo Jones, and the rest. If you're gaga over this game like I am, I wanna hear from ya! If you can read these words ya got email, right? Let's start a Hungry Star Studios Fan Club!

Thank you cdollens@ix.netcom.com for the advice. The second dream is a little easier than the first, but still a bit of a challenge. I've finally gotten my mental energy back up to par! My problem now is that I'm down to EIGHT lifeforce! This happened after I got to the vid- halls. Word to the wise, when ya start seeing blood oozing all over your monitor, it's time to RUN!! JUMP until you're clear! It's probably too late for you by then. I tried bringing lots of food and coffee with me, but it didn't help. There's got to be another way through the Vid Hall.. Maybe those side passages? Nope! They got electric flame surging through them. Hmmm... As for how to handle Stevie and Yuji, I found the secret. Don't make passes at Stevie first off. She takes that real coldly. Secondly, Yuji LOVES to be complimented. Compliment the heck out of him. Well, don't overdue it yet. I personally stop after the second or third compliment, and I get real humble around him. Works like a charm. Got $10,000 from Yuji for my latest piece. As for the mysterious third media buyer, I still haven't figured him out yet, but I think there may be some clues in the books in the bedroom. Look for his autobiography. If you glean something from it, let me know. Oh, and give Mr. Red a call just for grins. He might actually give you a clue to point you in the right direction. Then again, he might just browbeat you and make you feel like wet cement. Depends on his mood. Seeya!

From the Diary of Robin Starveling, during his sojourn into the Distortion Dimension.

January 14th, 1999:
I've been trapped in my Personal Media Tower for awhile now. The last trek to the VidHalls almost cost me my life, but I was able to capture some video while I ran through the halls screaming, and though the sound is beyond usefulness, the pics were great! Now I have another ten thou of Yuji's money, and I've spent it wisely.

I went to my trusty Vidphone and called Earth. Got as much Food Goo as I could stand. I learned that when I keep hitting the BUY THIS option repeatedly, showing my impatience, the credit check goes by much more quickly. Thank Heaven! Then I went to the kitchen, and stuffed myself on Turkey sandwiches on white bread. Even after I felt full, I just kept going. Though I was at death's door, the food goo sandwiches seemed to have improved my lifeforce, and I should soon be able to withstand another trek out of my protected sanctum.

Think Bob Waters might interview me when all this is over? I've been reading the interview he did with Stevie. When I become rich and famous, I want a man of his calibre to write my biography. Or maybe I'll just write it myself like Hans did.

The library has been a constant companion while I've been ill, and I'm glad I brought it with me. Though the puzzles still challenge me, one of them actually helped me understand how to open some portals in this alternate reality...

I must close now. My eyes are getting heavy, and I must once more face the nightmares. I don't think I will catch any z's tonight, but maybe I'll keep a light on, instead.

I always die in the game because my life \ force never regenerates, even though I keep my mental and physical health at full power. If I lose life force, it never comes back, and I die. Help me please.

Anyone interested in a Hungry Star Studios Fan Club?

Got a favorite Hungry Star in Total Distortion? Wanna rap with fellow fans of TD via email? If you'll write me, I'll amass a group of interested individuals and we'll start a list of people who can massmail to one another messages about Total Distortion. I'm not just talking about hints and tips, but just what you think about the game. We could also share personal vids via email. Get suggestions from one another regarding how to improve the videos and also get feedback on how to play the game itself. Get to know others on the Net who also find TD a crazy wow game of extra-ordinary proportions!

NO COST! NO SALESMAN WILL COME TO YOUR DOOR!

Maybe if enough of us will get together and organize requests to the poprocketeers, we can get them to add to their web page a section that shows short bios about the people who posed for the videos, and maybe we could get them to also do a sort of "making of TD" where they show some interesting tidbits about "behind the scenes" type stuff. How did the idea come about? How long has it been in the making? What inspirations did they draw from? How'd they come up with so much original music, and most importantly, WHEN IS THERE GONNA BE A TOTAL DISTORTION TWO??

Anyone interested, please email me at zachnlis@airmail.net. This isn't sanctioned by anyone important. I just really think this is a crazy wow game, and want to get to know others who also think this is a crazy wow game.

Hope to hear from ya soon!

Robin Starveling

I've been playing the game for two days, and all I have done is sell a video to Stevie for $500. I can't get past the first guitar warrior. My ONE video isn't very good. It's basicly all clips that came from earth, with a couple clips of my tower, and the tunnel that takes you to the first warrior. I have the game set on difficulty level 1, and danger level 1, and I am still having a lot of trouble. I bought the twanger model c, instead of model a, but it didn't help much . Also, the last time I left the tower, I was almost killed, and I cannot my life back up. I've tried sleeping and eating, but that just raised my physical and mental points. I need Help!!

Lifeforce:

Patience has been said to be a virtue, and nowhere is that more prevalent than in Total Distortion.

I've gone entire game sessions (usually am able to spend only a few hours at a time playing TD, with my present schedule) with my lifeforce down to eight or so, and the next game session it shoots up to 21 for no logical reason. I think it is a time factor of some sort. The game is designed to make you spend alot of time in your PMT. Explore the place as much as you can. Read ALL the books. Even the ones that look like you might find them boring. Some of them contain hidden clues, and others are just fun to toy with once you get the hang of it.

The bottom line is, if you keep sleeping and eating when possible, your lifeforce will eventually start creeping up. It may take a few times to come in and out, but once it hits around fifty, for me anyway, the lifeforce just shoots up like a Roman Candle on the fourth of July.

Mac-Beatnik: I don't know why, but I just love this thing. Cool daddio! Anyone know if there's a way to add words into it, or somehow influence the outcome of the random choices? While waiting for my life force to creep up, I've spent time clicking on the guy as the words swirl around him, but I've had no luck. Also, is there a way to save the final poems to disk somehow? Though you can highlight the words with the mouse, I don't know the keyboard combination needed to copy them and paste them into a textfile. The standard Windows cntrl-c or alt-prntscrn don't work.

Experienced Players: Are the only people who post in here people like me who are basically just starting out in the game? Where are the afficionados? The experts? Most of the messages in here are from us tyros who still haven't gotten past the Vid Hall! HELP! Show us your wisdom!

Anyone know why the video editor won't display the director's name when you view it (Mac version)?

It seems to just repeat the video name field twice.

Also, is there anywhere people are uploading sample TD videos? I'd be interested in seeing some good ones.

Okay, I know that this is probably incredibly basic, but how do I go to sleep? I go to the bed in the bedroom, click on it, it plays that "Oh, go to sleeep..." song, but...where are these nightmares that I have to face th at I hear people talk about? Where's my lifeforce going up? Why can't I sleep? Any help on this surely-ridiculous Q would be appreciated...

If your mental stats are around eighty or above, it won't let you sleep. You'll be too restless. Go outside and get hit by a Guitar Warrior, then try going to sleep. hehehe
